This exciting project seeks to address the global challenge of improving health outcomes in low-resource, remote settings. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has the potential to revolutionise early care pathways in community and primary care settings but is not widely implemented. There are significant evidence gaps around contextual influences on outcomes. Put simply, we do not understand if or how to implement POCUS in new settings. There are challenges around safe and effective provision by non-specialist care practitioners. These challenges could potentially be addressed using novel technology such as artificial intelligence and assisted reality; these aspects will be examined during the project.
The successful applicant will work with our existing industry and NHS Wales collaborators (Bloom Standard, Swansea Bay and Cardiff & Vale University Health Boards). Further collaborative opportunities with international partners will be leveraged, sought and nurtured. The student will be integrated in a strong interdisciplinary team where supervisors are actively involved in the delivery of work. The student will benefit from immersion in the Faculty’s wider cardiovascular-oriented research themes and regular participation in the PGR programme for student academic development.
