This Heads-or-Tails Game Will Be Your Students’ New Obsession

Sometimes the simplest games are the most popular! (Case in point: silent ball.) In this case, it’s a little old-fashioned heads-or-tails game.

Fourth grade teacher and TikTok creator @mr.kylecohen caught our attention with this unbelievably simple game he plays with his students. It’s not academic, per se (although a teacher pointed out that it would be a great way to teach probability and statistics). But even without the stats lesson, the heads-or-tails game is a great way to get everyone engaged and paying attention during a morning meeting, before class, or whenever they have some downtime.

Kyle is a natural teacher with a super-clear, super-quick how-to. Check it out!

Now, if you’re thinking This sounds great, but my teenage students won’t be into it, let me tell you something. I saw this game played with a room full of adults at a fancy gala once, and grown adults were having so much fun they lost their minds.

With December around the corner and schedule changes galore, this is a great game to have in your back pocket for when the wee ones (or the tall ones) start to get squirrelly.

What teachers are saying

By and large, the teachers in the comment section said they had either played it and could verify that their students loved it, or that they couldn’t wait to play it.

A great suggestion, especially if you’ve got a virtual classroom. Here’s a digital coin flipper with an especially satisfying coin flip sound (and a wait time that definitely builds anticipation!).

An interesting clarification if this was something you were also thinking.

And an enthusiastic confirmation. (Note to self: We should have more social handles based on our favorite grocery store cookie brands.)

Whether you choose to use this heads-or-tails game in the classroom, entertain a minivan full of soccer players waiting for the next game at a tournament, or as a fun activity at the next faculty meeting you’re planning, we hope it’s fun and engaging. Start saving your quarters!
